Jeffrey French, DVM
Dr. Jeffrey French grew up in Wellesley and Rockport and graduated from U Mass. He moved to Minnesota and graduated with his DVM degree in 1977. After an internship at Angell Memorial in Boston, he established the Cape Ann Veterinary Hospital in 1978. His wife, Barbara Reid, DVM joined him in 1982 and retired in 2020 to spend more time with their 3 grandchildren. Their son, Douglas, joined the practice in 2013 and the practice continues today with father and son at the helm.
Douglas J. French, DVM
"Dr. Doug" is a THIRD generation veterinarian and the son of Dr. Jeffrey French and Dr. Barbara Reid. He is a 2013 graduate of Tufts University Veterinary School. Douglas recently completed an internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital where he rotated through many departments such as Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, and Surgery. He has three 'sato' (Puerto Rican rescue) dogs, which he adopted through the Cape Ann Animal Aid and a wonderful but extremely stubborn beagle. In his free time, Dr. Doug likes to take his dogs hiking, go rock climbing, and travel. He has a special interest in dentistry and surgery.
Lee Powell, DVM
Dr. Powell grew up on the North Shore of Massachusetts and earned an engineering degree from Northeastern University. He worked in research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for several years before attending veterinary school at Tufts University. After receiving his veterinary degree, Dr. Powell worked briefly in the North Andover area before coming to Cape Ann Vet Hospital. His hobbies include rollerblading, kayaking, and landscaping.
Kate Dodge, VMD
Dr. Kate Dodge grew up on Cape Cod in Dennis, MA. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Bowdoin College, she attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 2003. Her career began in Dennis working alongside her father, who is also a veterinarian. She joined us at Cape Ann Vet in 2011. She and her husband have two children (now teenagers), two dogs, two cats and a horse. In her free time, Kate enjoys racquet sports, skiing, gardening and daily walks with her dogs.
Amber Orr, DVM
Dr. Orr grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii then moved east where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Tufts University in 2009. She graduated with her DVM degree from Colorado State University in 2013 and then completed her internship in 2014 with Dr. Doug French at VCA South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, MA. After moving to the North Shore Dr. Orr met her husband and they currently have 2 daughters and one special orange kitty. Her hobbies are hiking, ballroom dancing, and reading. Professional interests include dentistry, preventative health care, and pain management.
Melissa Miele, VMD
Dr. Miele graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004. After completing an internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in 2005 she worked in emergency medicine for 10 years before moving onto general practice medicine. She has also volunteered in several different countries providing free veterinary services to those in need - her dogs were adopted after volunteer trips to the Dominican Republic. Dr. Miele has a strong interest in dentistry and surgery. She lives on the Northshore with her husband, 2 boys, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Her hobbies include knitting, reading, and hanging out with her boys.
